Wow, am I ever way behind in my blogging, huh?

It’s been on my list to do nearly every day and yet I somehow never got the time to do it.

Today I’m gonna ramble on a bit about being frugal and some of the things I’ve done this past week.

For those of you who go on the FrugalVillage forums, you may have read them all already,

But, for those of you who don’t take part in the forums, maybe there are some here that will help to inspire you a bit.

Anyone else ever take part in the FrugalVillage grocery challenge?

I tried it probably 3 or 4 months ago but didn’t do so good with it but am going to try it again for May and see how I do.

So, today I’ll be taking stock of what I have here on hand and then based on that, setting an amount I’ll try to stick to, to spend in May.

Here are some of my frugal doings this past week:

- Cut Lexi [my cat] down to 2 - 1 tsp. servings a day of canned food

- Use store bag for trash [= free instead of buying them!]

- Counted change jar & am now in on the change jar challenge

- Went through groceries on hand to figure out how much I’ll spend for May challenge

- Drank only water/coffee

- Purposely measured out 1 tsp. of coffee creamer instead of using shaker and just dumping it in [I know I use way more using the shaker.]

- Got it through my head to NOT buy any more cleaning products until all I have are used up!

- Library: Left Behind books #12 - #16

- 8 free notecards with envelopes

- Trimmed my own hair/saved at least $6.00/$8.00 [I only ever get my bangs trimmed]

- Used coupons for cat food at store today ... got 2 free bags of dry food for free & $1.50 off from 10 cans of canned food

- Watered down hair conditioner and found it works just as well!

- Read through posts on FrugalVillage and a couple of other frugal forums as well ... got lots of good ideas and inspiration too. :)

- Called the library [wow - haven’t been there in literally years!] and found that they have the rest of the books in the "Left Behind" series,

so I don’t have to buy them right now. Woo hoo!

- Used some yarn that I hated the texture of for working with, but refused to just toss it out or give it away

And .... if this were a Top 10 List count-down, here would be my #1 ...

- Bought 2 long-johns at Bi-lo, ate them both and then stomach didn’t feel so good so I didn’t go to Walmart as planned

[probably saved way more than I paid for the 2 long johns. a-lol]

Tip of the day

If you go to an eye doctor and they give you a prescription for bi-focals, ask if they are really necessary.

This past month, my Dr. gave me a prescription for bi-focals and after asking questions, when all was said and done ...

I was told that just over-the-counter reading glasses would work fine as long as I could see out of them okay to read, do needlepoint, etc.

Total amount saved? Nearly $200.00!

Verse of the day

1 Thesselonians 4:11

"Make it your goal to lead a quiet life and to mind your own business."

It sounds like you are really on track for using less and saving more in the long run. It's great that you were able to get reading glasses instead of bifocals. Glasses are expensive! I love doing the grocery challenges at Frugal Village, I'll be on again for May. I am thinking or rinsing out a spray bottle that I have and filling it with vinegar and water to clean counter tops, sinks, and my mirrors and windows, instead of buying anymore windex. Good luck with the grocery challenge :).

I also wanted to say that I would love to read the blogs about your writing, but those I can't seem to get into. I hope it's going well for you though :).

You're on a roll!

Sounds like you've really struck upon some good ideas. The one about the Bi-Lo long johns? Not so good. There has to be a better way to avoid the Wal-Monster! LOL

Sounds like you are getting really focused on your frugality. Good for you. I like to read and have a list of books on my 'to read' list. Normally I would purchase them, but I took myself down to the library and had them put them on hold for me.
