I don’t know how many of you have participated in the yearly blogathon that is held each year,

So, in case you don’t know about it ... I wanted to tell you all about it!

This years blogathon will be held on July 28, 2007 and anyone with a blog is welcome to participate.

Basically what it is, is that you commit yourself to blogging for a 24 hour period and during this time, you must post on your blog every 30 minutes.

Before hand, you select a charity that you want to blog for and then complete the sign-up form on Blogathon.

After doing that, you verify the link that will be sent to you by e-mail and then you start looking for people to sponsor you.

Oh ... and also you should put a Blogathon link of your blog for others to be able to see it so if they’d like - they can sponsor you.

After the event, e-mails are sent to all the people who sponsored you and in that e-mail will be a link that directs them to your charity’s page.

Most likely, at the end of the 24 hours ... Calgon, take me away will probably be your theme. a-lol

Still, it is so worth it because you know you’ll be blogging for the charity of your choice and also, it’s just plain fun to do!

If anyone is interested in participating in this years blogathon, please check out their page at: Blogathon.

I’m not sure which charity I’ll be blogging for this year yet but most likely it’ll be one of the following ...

  • Samaritans Purse

  • Feed the Children

  • A no-kill animal shelter

On the blogathon site, there are also forums there that you can check out;

along with any specifics of the blogathon that I may have forgotten to mention.

Warmth for the Homeless

Wow, can you believe that it’s Wednesday already?

This week has flown by and I guess that is because of the long weekend most likely.

I didn’t end up doing anything over Memorial Day weekend except for to stay home and crochet like crazy!

Can’t remember if I’d posted about this before or not but I’ve been working on afghans for homeless shelters.

The ones I’m working on can be made with leftover yarn so that there is a variety of colors and also it’s a good way to use up partial skeins [which I had a lot of!]

Below is a picture of what I’ve been doing - what it is, is that you make a bunch of the 1st round of a granny square -

and then when you have enough of them - you join them together.

I’ve got this part down really well [I’ve got around 2,650 of them done already!]

My friend said that when she made one, she used about 800 to make an afghan but I think that is for one to fit a double bed.

For homeless shelters, I’m sure that the ones they would be able to use most would be ones for single beds and not double.

My goal [for now anyways!] is to finish 4,000 of these squares above and I should have enough for about 10 afghans.

Below is a picture of one completed which I found on this website.

Do I know how to put them together? Well ... not yet but I do have someone to show me how when I get to where I’m ready to finish them.

I hope to have all of the squares done by the end of August at the very latest and that should give me a month and a half to get them together.

I’d like to have them completed to donate by the middle of October when it starts getting chilly here.

I love making these and especially love that I’ll be able to help someone who is less fortunate than I am.

Just a thought here ... if any of you crochet and would want to help, I’d be grateful to receive any squares done like this in order to make more afghans to donate.

If this is something you’d like to do - or even if you maybe have yarn laying around and you don’t ... or won’t use it,

I’d also gladly accept that as well, as it can always be put to good use!

Anyways, should you feel led to do either and would like to contact me, please leave me a message here and how I can get in touch with you [e-mail].

Thanks so much!

Love,

Jennelle Script
