I just couldn't pass this up after all of the talking about just doing with what we had and saving for the emergency fund I am weak and the only way I can "Try" to justify spending this money is that (1) We paid cash (2) we didn't touch our emergency fund or money we have put aside for house and property taxes (3) Our bills are all paid and kept up to date (4) we have so much food in our house that I am good for a couple of month without buying any I am sure except of course for milk, eggs and fresh produce/fruit.
We bought all second hand......a sofa, reclining wing chair, 3 piece wall unit, wooden C.D tower, 2 lamps, a beautiful solid marble top round coffee table and end table all for $725......Our whole living room is furnished! We spent $39 on paint and painted our living room yesterday. What you won't see in the link below is that I also bought was a glider rocking chair for $75 and a beautiful gold framed mirror with a beautiful 1/2 round table to go under it.....she had paid $200 just for the mirror alone and for the mirror and beautiful stand she sold it to us for $50 The grand total for all came to $850
I don't know how long the pictures will be in the link below, we are picking them up on Wednesday! ....the pictures do not give this set justice, they really all do look brand spanking new......just as if we had just bought all of this stuff in a furniture show room! You can't see on the couch but it has a pretty burgandy thin stipe on the couch and the cream colour is a tiny tad darker than the picture.

We were helping out my parents until their pensions got straightened back up and they received their back pay and that finally has happened YAY!!! I was so worried about them but now knowing that they have everything back on track with a little money tucked aside for them I feel such great relief!
I did put almost $400 in our emergency fund the other day so that brought it up to $1500 in our ING account plus in another account there is $200 to go towards property/house/school taxes. Dh has some overtime so some of that is going towards paying on our "New to us" furniture. This is one of the nicests living room sets in which we will ever have had. I did buy a new living set etc back in 1994 but I sold that a couple of years later when I found a little tear on the side of the cushion and I thought, I would get what I could for it then and wait till the kids were older etc.....I know, I am odd . I just felt that if I bought second hand it wouldn't bother me so much seeing any wear and tear.
That is like having a new vehicle.....We had a 1995 dodge minivan brand spankin new back then and I went grocery shopping one day, came out and there was a scratch on it from someone banging their car door into my vans side........Soooooooo, Yup, you guessed it.....sold that too, got a used car and paid the van off. I don't know why I feel the way I do about that but in a way it is a blessing ....It has saved us from buying more new expensive things. Yup, told you I was odd lol, but I guess in this case for our family Odd is good lol.
We are invited to our friends house today for a fondu supper....I had a bunch of beef fondu meat in the freezer which I picked up about 6 packs which were onsale about 6 weeks ago. I am taking 2 packs of those with us , our friends have shrimp and other things as well. We are having them over on Wednesday evening for supper as well although I am not sure what I will make up yet.
It feels good to blog, I feel better already about buying the furniture although I just think....UGH, I just shouldn't have. I do not "treat" myself too often and I have to remember that everyone has to once in awhile......it is just usually I find that I have enough, there is nothing that we "need".....just once in awhile I get this "urge" to "want" although when I get the urge to want I can justify not getting it and then I am content with my decission .
Blessings to all on this Sunday . |
