Having Emergency Money In Our Home....

I read on a message board where someone keeps around $200 in $50s and other smaller bills in case of an emergency such as if an Ice Storm or any other natural disaster etc strikes and the ATM machines will not work. For Some reason, I had never thought of that! I don't know why as it makes perfect sense.

I have taken pride that Dh and I have a $500 "fast cash" emergency fund at our regular branch....our debit card does not work for this account but I can transfer the money into our chequing or savings account by either using the internet or phone. However, what if the power went out and the phone lines were down? I just wasn't thinking about that.

So what I am going to do is this......I havn't worked in a bit but every now and then I pick up a couple of shifts here and there. This coming week I have been asked to go into work for Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday soooooooooo, there will be our Emergency Money to keep at home! Hidden of Course .

Also, I would like to fill up my car everytime the gas gage goes down to 1/2 full, I don't drive it everyday so this should also be very doable

      Happy Saturday Everyone

It is a good idea to have some cash available...just in case.

I do the envelopes, so I usually have some cash at home. I think it's a good idea in case of an emergency.
I also like the idea of keeping gas in the car.

I don't have much cash around the house, but I am trying to build up a little bit there. You know, the funny thing is, what if it were a huge natural disaster? Something that takes weeks to get back on track from and you can't count on the bank or cash machine. Really makes you think about things. Thanks for the reminder.

I have my change jar that I keep adding to. I am grateful it's there, because I like knowing I have money in case of an emergency at my fingertips. It's not a whole lot, but between mine and my fiance's change we have about $50 in case we needed to buy something and the electricity was out.

That's one thing I really should do as well but seldom ever have cash [I either use a check or my ATM card.]

So glad that you brought this up 'cuz [if I remember], I'm going to start taking out a bit of cash each month just for this reason.

Love,

Jennelle
