Getting back on track

I have been trying to get back on track with saving money and living frugal. We were doing so well until this past summer, I could actually see the "light" and then all of the sudden I seemed to have lost my way........I feel like I am starting from scratch yet again. I have been stockpiling however which is great!

With money, Oh Sheeeeeeeeshhhhhhhhh....We have been trying to get the emergency fund up and running and then it just seemed like one thing after another was coming at us to take a bit here and a bit there......some things were not an emergency, I guess the term "Live and Learn" really does have meaning.

Today I am starting a freedom account yet again. We did this for a bit and it was Wonderful and then getting off track......well.We just pay everything as they come in but I think I liked it better not taking it out of each pay to pay for house/property taxes, school fees, birthdays etc when they all come due. Maybe with having this blog I can hold myself accountable.

We have however been paying ourselves first which is a good key.....we have not hit rock bottom or had to live from pay to pay for about 1 1/2 years now since doing this, there is always a little something tucked away, not much but a little.

So, my goal for this week is to get our Freedom account started today.....I am going to open a sub account with ING and deposit $131 in there. It is a start for sure.

It sounds like you've got a good plan going on there. Baby steps. That's what they say. You did it before and you will again. Good luck to you!!

Sometimes life throws you curves. Just jump back in where you are and take babysteps...that is what the FlyLady advises.

frugal living and frugal hobbies

I have been doing the frugal thing for the last seven years after having lung surgery, double replacement, OA and RA, fibromyalga and a hernia fixer upper. I get a little more in permanent disability than what I was trying to do 2 or more part time jobs in order to make ends meet. Luckily my house is paid off as of this year which means one less payment but then I had to pick up home insurance this year. I get $84 a month in food stamps, $618 in Disability, $5 SSI and I get food assistance from the church I belong to and some assistance from the Masons because I belong to Eastern Star. This is the first year that I have been able to some $$$ in to get things that I need to do my crafts: jewelry making, knitting, crocheting, counted cross stitching, soap and candle making and sewing. I have received crochet yarn and thread from people cleaning out their stasch(sp)as. I also have hit up a few yard sales this year to get glass jars, molds, rubber stamps and whatever else I can find to do my projects. I also have a friend that will look for me also. I am for ever grateful for those that have helped the last few years. I have no scrupples when it comes to yard sales, thrift shops and moving sales to see if I can find a great treasure of some kind that I may need for my craft projects. I guess I am what is called a craft aholic and enjoy every minute of it. When I was working I would also stock up on yarn, thread or whatever and put it away for later when I need it. Eventually I will get some of my "stuff" used up. Elaine Henderson
