Slow Cooking Thursday: Crockpot Pizza

I was planning to try something new from one of the crockpot books I checked out from the library on Monday, but I really haven't had time to go through them and pick something out.  Instead, I'm making a family favorite.   Those of you from Frugal Village may recognize this recipe- I've shared it there before!

It's really one of those things that I just throw together, so all measurements are guess-timates.   The original version of this recipe came from my mom, who got it from my aunt.  You can adapt it to use whatever pizza ingredients, type of pasta, etc.  you have handy.

Crockpot Pizza

  • 1 lb hamburger, browned and drained
  • 1 box rotini or macaroni, cooked al dente  (not quite done)
  • 2+ cups mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 bag sliced pepperoni
  • 1 extra large jar spaghetti sauce (3lb size)  or two regular-sized jars   (You can do it with only one jar of sauce, but we like it better with the extra.)
  • 1 T minced garlic
  • Italian seasoning to taste
  • And other pizza toppings if available:  chopped onions, peppers, mushrooms, etc.

Brown and drain the hamburger (w/ onions and garlic, if using), then add half the sauce in with the meat.  Layer meat/sauce, noodles, cheese, pepperoni, and repeat layers until crockpot is full, ending with a layer of sauce & the Italian seasoning.  Cook on low all day. (Sometimes I only cook this 3-4 hours, and it's fine.)   Shortly before serving, add more cheese to the top and allow it to melt.

Check out more slow-cooking favorites, and share yours, over at Slow Cooking Thursday!

That sounds great & child friendly. I'll have to try it one night when we want pasta and I am spaghetti'd out.

About Me: Amy

I love to cook! I'll blog here about recipes I try, recipes I create, and random thoughts on food and cooking. I rarely follow a recipe exactly, and usually that works out OK, but sometimes it doesn't... it's always an adventure in my kitchen!
