I'll keep adding to the album as I make more things.  Mom to be likes the hat the best, and it's the one I like the least :)

If it were up to me, this upcoming baby would be naked

*sigh* -  I finally found my knit hat pattern, and started a hat. . . .  got about 30 rows and decided the yarn I'd chosen didn't look right with this pattern.  Ripped it out, picked a different yarn. . . .now about 45 rows into it, I realize that it's taking more yarn than I'd anticipated, and I won't have enough  :(

UGH -- the yarn is discontinued too.

ME! Knitting baby booties!

Knitting isn't the easiest craft for me, so this is BIG.  I'll post pictures as I get them finished.

Tiny, Easy knitted gift bag I made

I made this tiny bag today, in an effort to use up some scrap yarns, and to achieve a goal of all reusable gift bags next Christmas.

The pattern is my own, although very simple and easily adapted.

Materials needed:

size 5 knitting needles
small amount of Caron Simply Soft Yarn (mine is dark sage)
tapestry needle
1/2 yd. of 3/8 inch wide ribbon

Cast on 20 stitches
Knit in garter stitch for 4 rows
Next row - knit 1, yarn over, knit 2 together - repeat across, ending yarn over, knit 1.
Next row - purl across
Work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 10 inches from the beginning.
Next row - knit 1, yarn over, knit 2 together- repeat across, ending yarn over, knit 1.
Next row - purl across.
Knit 4 rows of garter stitch.
Bind off.

Fold piece in half, right sides facing.Sew side seams. Weave in ends.  Turn right side out.Weave ribbon through eyelets at top.

I'm thinking I may decide to embelish it later with some cross stitch
motif on the front of the bag.

This is my own pattern.  You may use it as you wish, but please don't
claim it as your own, or sell it.

There goes the grocery budget

Dd was diagnosed with celiac disease.  No gluten containing foods for her. No breads, crackers, noodles.  She can't eat out hardly at all.  She can only have a few candies and premade items because of the risk of the manufacturing process containing wheat/barley/rye items.

Gluten free products are ridiculously expensive!  $7 for 1/2 loaf of bread :O

Working on multiple projects

I'm doing a crocheted sweater for my DIL, and several potholders/hotpads for gift baskets.  I have yarn for some scarves, and some for shawls.

Just got to keep on plugging away -- I keep one project in the car, one at the computer desk, and one in my locker at work.  That way, when I have a few minutes -- I can do a few stitches.

Desperately trying to make up time.

Between illness, money concerns, and depression - I've not gotten many Christmas gifts made this year.  I had several potholders done, but I gave most of them to a co-worker for a housewarming gift.  So. . .now, I'm frantically trying to get some gifts done quickly -- time is running short.

Horse costume in Woman's World Magazine

I picked up a copy when I was at the grocery store.  It has the cutest horse costume make of felt.  Basically you cut a large horse shape from felt (x2) stiffen with heavy interfacing. . . add features and straps to go over your child's shoulders.  So it looks like your child is riding the horse.

Shapes scarf - knit pattern (a good way to use up scraps)

I'm thinking this will be a good project to take on vacation (and maybe convince Deana to knit too). I can use up lots of scraps of yarn, and get some stuff done for Christmas.

OH MY GOODNESS!

I'm not a huge fan of Martha Stewart, so I don't know what possessed me
to post on the message board of her site. . . but I had posted a
picture of Sarah's towel cake that I made for her shower. Today I get
a message that my "cake" is on the front page of the wedding section!

Hi,

We liked your towel cake so much we decided to put it on our community
front page! Take a look at the "WEDDINGS" tab:

We love finding out what community members are creating, so please
keep us informed of what you're up to!

Thanks,

Catherine

Not exactly a craft

But something I'm going to try to make.  I need to find all the materials though.

I think I might give this a try for the upcoming winter. . . .maybe more than one, if it works well.

Wow! I wish my knitting skills were better

I'd love to be able to make this for my dd -- either to wear for the Christmas band program, or if I added another "tier" to wear for prom next year.

I might give it a try and see how it goes.  It says it's an intermediate pattern, but it sure looks complicated.

"The Duel"

{ 11:11, 2007-Jun-1 } { 1 comments } { Link }
I'm thinking of doing something with this for gifts. My grandmother used to recite this poem to me, when I was a little girl. I think I'll print and frame the poem, then make some stuffed cats/dogs to go with -- for gifts.  I have several patterns for stuffed dogs/cats - not sure which one I'll use yet.

The Duel - Eugene Field

THE Gingham dog and the calico cat
Side by side on the table sat;
'T was half-past twelve, and (what do you think!)
Nor one nor t' other had slept a wink!
The old Dutch clock and the Chinese plate 5
Appeared to know as sure as fate
There was going to be a terrible spat.
(I was n't there; I simply state
What was told to me by the Chinese plate!)

The gingham dog went "bow-wow-wow!" 10
And the calico cat replied "mee-ow!"
The air was littered, an hour or so,
With bits of gingham and calico,
While the old Dutch clock in the chimney-place
Up with its hands before its face, 15
For it always dreaded a family row!
(Never mind: I 'm only telling you
What the old Dutch clock declares is true!)

The Chinese plate looked very blue,
And wailed, "Oh, dear! what shall we do!" 20
But the gingham dog and the calico cat
Wallowed this way and tumbled that,
Employing every tooth and claw
In the awfullest way you ever saw—
And, oh! how the gingham and calico flew! 25
(Don't fancy I exaggerate—
I got my news from the Chinese plate!)

Next morning where the two had sat
They found no trace of dog or cat;
And some folks think unto this day 30
That burglars stole that pair away!
But the truth about the cat and pup
Is this: they ate each other up!
Now what do you really think of that!
(The old Dutch clock it told me so, 35
And that is how I came to know.)
