Doing our frugal things2008-Jan-28
I've not been posting much on here. . . really nothing new going on.  Just keeping on doing the things we do to save money.

Dd has been accepted to the college of her choice, and we're already paying them money.  Application fees, room hold fees, etc.  *sigh*  such a racket.

My dryer caught fire late last week, so now we are hanging laundry by force, rather than choice.  Dd had gotten rather dependent on the dryer , as she'd wait to do her laundry till right before school, etc.  She's having to relearn how to plan ahead.  Not necessarily a bad thing :)

tried a new recipe today2007-Aug-3
We stopped at Sam's club and sampled a chicken salad concoction while we were there.  It was really good.  They simply mixed canned chicken (drained ) ranch dressing and a bit of Mrs. Dash to taste.  It is so simple and so tasty.

Now why didn't I think of using ranch dressing instead of mayo?

Finally Friday2007-Jun-29
Hi everyone -- I had a good day yesterday. . . even though I was
dealing with new cardiac monitors. I know how to read them, but
changing settings, alarm limits, printing info - was a challenge.

I don't understand why some people bother to even come to the hospital
though.  If they aren't going to follow the doctor's instructions, not
allow us to do tests, procedures, etc - why are they there?  I had one
guy with a broken back (broken in 2 places actually).  On spinal
precautions, in a brace- etc.  He kept insisting on raising the head
of his bed (thus bending his back), taking off his brace - and so
forth.  Gee I wonder why he was having so much pain?  Wonder why he
developed numbness in his legs -- I just hope he's not completely
paralyzed.  Another one with respiratory failure that wouldn't leave
their oxygen in place, wouldn't leave the monitors in place, etc.
UGH.  I don't understand that . . . then go back home, if you don't
want us to do our job.  I understand refusing specific procedures or
tests -- but to come in and basically refuse anything (oh - the
respiratory failure one wouldn't let us even start an IV line) -- then
why are they there at all?

Back to work today :)

My day didn't go as planned2007-Jun-22
My mom decided she wanted to go shopping before her doctor appointment. . .so I picked her up at 9:30  AM and didn't get home until 5:30 PM.  We went shopping, out for lunch, then waited 3 hours on the doctor.  After he x-rayed her leg, he decided she needed orthotic inserts for her shoes. . . so we had to drive across town and get molds made, etc.

Thankfully we managed to get everything on her lists, in the morning -- as we were both exhausted by late afternoon.  On an up note, the doctor says, unless she has new pain or injury - he doesn't need to see her again.

Happy Summer Solstice!2007-Jun-21
Even though I don't walk the medicine wheel, I still celebrate the Sol - as a way of honoring my heritage.

We'll be having some traditional foods, some dancing tonight, etc.

UGH2007-Jun-21
I got notice that my family leave for my mom was denied.  They don't think her condition qualifies as a serious medical condition.  So now my mom is refusing to go to any doctor appointments.  she won't jeopardize my job, and she CAN'T take herself.  She can't walk more than a few steps due to arthritis and severe asthma.

We're also researching and implementing as many energy saving methods as we can find.

Well, I. . . .2007-Jun-17
Survived Father's day
No battles today. . . . didn't argue with my sister or my dad -- how about that?

We grilled out at mom's -- ddil brought dad home when she got off
work at 10:00, and I took him back a little before 5:00.  He didn't
eat much of the meat or salads, but he sure put away the watermelon
and ice cream  :)

We took the scenic route back to the nursing home.  First he wanted to
see his lots in town -- so we drove by there, then he decided he
wanted to see his brother-- Harold.  We drove all the way to Waverly,
got dad out of the car, wrestled him into the bar -- then back to
Harold's apartment, only to find Harold sound asleep and not waking
easily.  Wrestled dad back to the car , stopped at Caseys to put some
gas in mom's car -- then drove through Auburn, Thayer, Virden to
Girard.

I'd forgotten my cell phone, so what should have taken me about 1/2
hour, took 1 1/2 hours.  DH and mom were starting to get worried.

Forgot to mention2007-Jun-13
One of my friends has triplet girls.  The girls are in 8th grade (one
of the girls thinks dd is the best thing ever).

Anyway -- One of the triplet's won Jr. Miss at the town picnic last week.  That
means she has to go to all the nearby county fairs, town festivals,
etc.  That requires lots of "party" type dresses, formals, etc.

Her mom called me and asked (while apologizing) if she could borrow
some of dd's dresses for these occasions.  Ddwas more than
happy to pack them up and hand them over -- she GAVE several of her
dresses to them, only asked for about 3 of them back.  Kimberly was
thrilled, her mom was thrilled and ddwas thrilled to be able to
help.

Oh and the girls mom made the comment to us that she was "cheap" and
dd said "No, you're frugal.  You're making the best use of your
resources.  You'd have bought new dresses if you'd had to, but you
used what was available instead."

YES!  She gets it!

I don't believe it!2007-Jun-7
Dhis baking oatmeal cookies for a cookie bake off at the town
picnic tonight!

He wanted me to make them, and I told him they'd rather have a man do
the baking. . . so he is! He's actually a good cook, but prefers the
whole world not know that he cooks.  I'm surprised he's doing this.

Boring day2007-Jun-7
I can't find anything that I want to do. . . lots I need to do, but nothing I want do . KWIM?

I should drop some ingredients in the bread machine. . . I should be cleaning this pig sty . . .  but I don't feel like doing any thing.

Tonight is the beginning of the town picnic -- and tonight is the only night I'll be able to go (I have to work 12 hour shifts for the next 3 days)  So I guess we'll go to that and spend money we don't need to be spending.

Life skills day2007-Jun-6
Today we're working on life skills with my dd . . . she's already pretty good, but we like to reinforce things and teach new things too.

Today we're making bread and balancing the check book.

Tonight is Marine Family Support Group meeting.

Not going to Six Flags today2007-Jun-4
I woke up in the middle of the night with a migraine. . . still fighting it this morning, and now I have a low grade fever.

Deana slept until 9:30 -- she was exhausted from the past week's rehearsals and performances.  I let her sleep, since I am sick.

So --- not sure what we'll be doing today.  Just resting I suppose.

Busy, busy Sunday2007-Jun-3
we have a full day today. . .

Church this morning. . . then I have to run to get dd's hair ready
for recital, then hurry to Girard to get my dad from the nursing home,
back to get my mom -- then dash to Jacksonville for recital.

Take the entire crew out for lunch/supper combo, cause there won't be
time before hand, and Deana won't eat before a performance anyway.

Home late this evening to throw a few things together for tomorrow.
We're heading for six flags in St. Louis (bought season passes when
they were on sale at Shop-n-Save)

Dance recital today and tomorrow2007-Jun-2
I'm actually going to go to a few yard sales today . . . my coworkers want ME to find a crib for the pregnant coworker that is having financial problems. (of course they'll all help pay for the crib, but they know I can generally find good deals at yard sales)

We're getting my dad from the nursing home and bringing him back to the farm for a while today. Zach is here for the weekend, so we'll all have lunch with him. Dad hasn't seen the inside of the new trailer yet. . . so he'll get to spend some time there too.

This evening is day one of recital. Dress rehearsal went well yesterday.

Spent some money- hoping to save some money2007-May-29
I purchased 4 solar lights -- 2 will go to my mom's , 2 will stay here.  We leave the front porch light on when ever we plan on being out after dark, or when dd is going to be home late.  I'm hoping the solar lights will make a dent in our electric bill.
