Trip to Jamaica: The Final Chapter

so the eeeeevil AIR JAMAICA says they will put us up in a holiday inn.  excuse me ....what.  now if you have never been to jamaica and seen the poverty and stores made of metal shipping cartons and tarp maybe you have no idea what i am imagining.  i am picturing the bates motel at this point.  we are broke and hungry and have not figured out how we are going to eat yet.  my son is bewildered, i am near tears and my husband has ceased to speak (very bad).  they put us in a taxi who takes us to ,...and i am not kidding.....the most beautiful all inclusive holiday inn in the whole world.  clearly they chose this hotel to keep the airline employee murder rate down. the hotel is clean and beautiful, it is huge with shops and a really kids club.

i must pause because i forgot something important for you parents to know.  i dropped my son off at the kids club at our previous resort and my BIL dropped off his 2 sons one of whom was technically 2 young to be there but the desk girl decided she would keep him as long as someone came to change his diapers.  cool a few hours to ourselves.  well that turned out to be boring as all heck so we go to pick up my son and check my nephews diapers.  there is a new shift, they allow me to walk in un-checked and extract my son, i announce that i am going to check my nephews diaper and call him by name.  the new desk lady glares at me demanding to know if he is mine, i say no he's my nephew and she says well he has to go call his mother to come get him (she didn;t drop him off) "well," i tell her "i'll take him."  "Great!" she says and i proceed to grab his little hand i ask his bro if he wants to go as well and he says sure.  so this woman who has never seen me allows me completely unchecked to collect 3 little boys scribble in the guest book and roll out!!!  "what the %&**??"  is this the security they have going on around here where some random woman can select 3 kids and go.  needless to say we did not go back.

Ok back to our story the holiday inn was glorious and everything a hotel should be.  the taxi picked us and some other leftbehinds up in the morning and drops us at the airport we proceed to the "gate" and i use the term loosley and sit on the floor (only 9 chairs per gate ) well i guess we must have looked pitiful cause a gate attendent who was at the ticket counter the previous night upgraded us to first class, preboarded us and poured us a drink LOL.  we arrived at orlando airport and thanks to the wonder of the customs process, the endless stream of luggage belts and trams we missed our good connecting flight and had to take the one the airport offered us.  i called my sister who cancelled our reservations (so we could get a refund) and called my husbands professor and explained what was happening.  he agreed that if DH could get there by 9:30 he would mark him present for the class  (university policy is miss 2 classes auto fail so this was important)

this took us to regan national airport (in the heart of DC) at rush hour where my sister's hubby scooped us up and drove like a mad man (its about 90 mins he did it in like 50) to get my hubby to class in the last 15 minutes so he could be marked present .

it was not my ideal vacation and although we receieved lovely ticket vouchers in exchange for us not lodging further complaints against the airline i doubt i will be going to jamaica anytime soon.  although i do intend to send my son yearly (with grandma) to visit his great grandparents.
